The publication is strictly connected to the exhibition Soft exit: works on paper: in both of them the artist faces the modifications of their body and of their image in a gender transition path, developing and fulfilling the research they started in the previous exhibition, Growth in absence.
“When confronted with the body – the artist writes in the book – we shapeshift; and form new understandings of ourselves”.
Katja alternates graphic and drawing traditional techniques with elements acquired from specular doubling and imaginative, distorted photos.
“Reflections morph and multiply in convoluted and unexpected ways. Sometimes it’s really easy to put a shirt on, and sometimes it feels like a disaster. The chaos of these consistent changes of personal acceptance is frustrating but eventually can plateau”.
