Caterina Sammartino (1997), works in Rome, where she studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti. She is a confounder of the artist-run space “Condotto 48,” which is home to her studio. In her work she seeks to articulate the tension between us and the great above, tending towards the impossibility of truly reaching the greater totality, the infinite. Thus becoming aware of the condition of being a light and temporary creature, where it is precisely through the impossibility of reaching it that this can be perceived. This research is concretized principally through installation work that analyzes this awareness starting from the body and explores the most spiritual dimension of life. In her work she uses materials of natural origin, but also mundane objects of everyday life, seeking a link with our surroundings, finding expression in the use of hemp, cotton, linen and performative actions, with a symbolic and relational value. Recent exhibitions include: L'Ombra Lunga, bipersonale, at Palazzo Rospigliosi in Zagarolo (Rome); PRESENTI, Palazzo Lucarini, Trevi (PG), 2023; VII Biennale di Viterbo Arte Contemporanea, 2022; Botanica, at EDDart, Rome; Materia nova. Roma nuove generazioni a confronto, Gallera d'Arte Moderna di Roma, 2021 In 2022 she participated in DUNE. Arts, landscapes, utopias, as an artist in residence, presenting a performative work.
