ERA Gallery is pleased to present a selection of works from a new series by Marta Dell’Angelo entitled “Prese”. Begun in 2020, the series explores a complex set of relationships between the body, the painting and the diverse materials used as canvas, challenging the hierarchies and balances between these three elements, and their dialectic with the environment.
The taking of hands, of arms, of portions of legs, in contact with the usually neutral structure of the paintings' surfaces (wood panels, cardboard, plexiglass, glass, mirrors and various objects of everyday use) can fold and distort them, but also simply capture, measure and sustain them.
The work consists of the depiction of a series of acts, occured while moving and manipulating diverse object materials, then transferred onto the objects themselves through painting. In its absence, specific details and parts represent the totality of the body, while the border between painting and sculpture vanishes.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue with texts by the curator and Vittorio Gallese, a neuroscientist at the University of Parma.
