Nanda Vigo (Milan 1936 - Milan 2020). She has been interested in art from a very young age when she spends time in the company of Filippo de Pisis, a friend of the family, and when she sees the architectures of Giuseppe Terragni from whom - you can guess - she has learned to pay attention to light. After graduating from the Lausanne Polytechnic Institute, and having studied further in San Francisco, she opened her own studio in Milan in 1959. From that moment on, the fundamental theme of her art has been the conflict / harmony between light and space, something the artist uses in her works as well as in her architecture and design. Since 1959 you have frequented the studio of Lucio Fontana, and then approached the artists who had founded the Azimut gallery in Milan, Piero Manzoni and Enrico Castellani.
At that time, thanks to her travels for her numerous exhibitions throughout Europe (more than 400 personal and collective), Vigo knows the artists and places of the ZERO movement in Germany, Holland and France. In 1959 he began to design the "Casa Zero" in Milan, which was only completed in 1962. From 1964 to 1966 he took part in at least thirteen ZERO exhibitions, including "NUL 65" at the Stedelijk, Amsterdam, and "ZERO: An Experimental Art Exhibition Europea ”at the Gallery of Modern Art in Washington DC In 1965 the artist curated the legendary“ ZERO avant-gardeshow ”in the studio of Lucio Fontana in Milan, in which 28 artists took part.
Between 1965 and 1968 she collaborated with Giò Ponti on the creation of the “House under the leaf” in Malò, Vicenza. In 1971 Vigo received the New York Award for Industrial Design for his lamp projects ("Golden Gate Lamp") and, in the same year, he designs and realizes one of his most spectacular projects: the "Remo Brindisi House-Museum" in Lido of Spina (Ferrara). In 1976 you won the first St. Gobain prize for glass design. In 1982 you took part in the 40th Venice Biennale. In 1997 you curated the exhibition "Piero Manzoni - Milan et Mythology" at Palazzo Reale, Milan.
Since 2006 her works have been in the permanent collection of the Design Museum of the Milan Triennale. In her activity, Vigo has an interdisciplinary relationship with art, design, architecture and the environment; she is involved in numerous projects as an architect, designer and artist. Her brilliant career was characterized by attention and research for art, which led her to collaborate with the most significant creatives of the time and to undertake projects aimed at promoting art, as in the exhibition “ITALIAN ZERO & avantgarde 60's ”at the MAMM Museum in Moscow. Since April 2013, Vigo's works have been in the collection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2014/2015 her works are exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin.
